Culture Committee

New Members Welcome!

The CBT Board of Directors encourages interested individuals from the UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region to sign-up for membership on an Advisory Committee. Participating on these community-based Committees provides residents with an excellent opportunity to network with peers and contribute to a sustainable future for the region.

The Culture Committee brings together First Nations and non-First Nations individuals focused on creating and supporting vibrant cultures on the West Coast.

The Culture Committee provides advice to the CBT Board on project proposals and priorities. The Committee meets every 6 - 8 weeks and has broad representation from throughout the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve region. All meetings are opened to the public -- please feel welcome to join us. Please contact Rebecca or Jean for information about the next scheduled meeting.

The Committee also develops their own projects with staff support. In Spring 2008, the Culture Committee focused on bringing together people from throughout the region who have an interest in history. The Committee is in the process of planning a dinner, in conjunction with the Tonquin Society, where these people can network about historical projects, ideas and dreams. The group is also supporting a visit to Morpheus Island to explore the history of Tofino settlers.

Discretionary Funding

The Culture Committee has an annual budget of $10,000 for discretionary funding of research, education and training projects. Requests are received on an ongoing basis for small projects throughout the region. Proponents are strongly encouraged to attend committee meetings to present their request in order that they are available to answer questions. Although there is no template for applications, all requests should be made in writing to the CBT. The following table lists the Committee's discretionary spending.
