Strategic Goals & Objectives
The strategic goals and objectives of the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust (CBT) are to:
Model
Enable the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community to be a model of ecosystem-based management and sustainable development.
- Secure the support and involvement of the people of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community in the pursuit of ecosystem-based management and sustainable development.
- Promote the development of a sustainable economy.
- Promote ecosystem-based approaches to management and conservation.
- To work with organisations in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community to enhance opportunities for co-ordination and efficiency.
Research
Support research that gathers information, organises knowledge and achieves wisdom necessary for conservation and sustainable development, for the demonstrable benefit of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
- Enhance knowledge of the interactions between humans and the biosphere.
- Enhance understanding of the social interactions and governance issues of people and communities within the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
- Enhance ecological knowledge within the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
- Develop indicators of sustainability.
- Develop and test methods and approaches for the monitoring of biodiversity, sustainability and quality of life.
- Serve as a clearinghouse of information and knowledge within the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
Educate
Support educational initiatives that benefit the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community in its pursuit of conservation, sustainable development and community health.
- Encourage the involvement of the residents and school children of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community in educational activities.
- Promote the development of educational resources within the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
Train
Actively participate with other organisations in the identification, development and delivery of local training initiatives that benefit the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community in its pursuit of conservation, sustainable development and community health.
- Improve local residents' capabilities in those skills required to move toward the Community Vision of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region.
- Offer organisational assistance to other organisations to improve the accessibility of vocational training available to residents of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region in support of the goals of sustainable development.
- Improve resource management and monitoring skills, especially amongst youth, in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
Culture
Promote and support cross-cultural understanding to create strong, vibrant, cultures and united communities in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community.
- Promote opportunities for cross-cultural exchange.
- Support Nuu-chah-nulth culture, including language initiatives.
Build
Build the capacity of the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust to work within the framework of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme and to contribute to the success of the World Network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.
- Develop institutional capacity of the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust to meet its goals and objectives.
- Become a leader within the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
- Build the endowment fund of the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust so that it will be in a position to disburse $1 million per year.
- Build the fundraising capacity of the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust so that it can cover its own administration overhead within a five (5) year period.
- Build awareness about UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community and the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust.
