Youth and the Biosphere Program Tofino Botanical Gardens Foundation The purpose of this project is to develop curriculum for a “Sustainability Camp”, a six day camp for Grade 6-7 students. The goal of the camp is to increase youth knowledge and awareness about the environment with the hope that increased awareness will help to modify the behaviour of future generations.
Outdoor Leadership ProgramFinal Report Ucluelet Secondary School In partnership with School District 70 (Alberni) this project prepares senior students for employment in the kayaking industry by earning the necessary industry certifications. The course focuses on water safety, wilderness first aid, boat handling skills, outdoor skills, camping skills, and leadership skills. The course also teaches students about the human and natural history of the CSUBR.
Young Naturalist Program Raincoast Education Society The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a program to teach youth ages 6-12 about the environment and culture of the CSUBR. Specific activities include the development of new curriculum modules for older youth, the delivery of at least ten after school sessions in Central Region First Nation communities and the extension of the program to the Ucluelet Secondary School.

Ucluelet Aquarium Society, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, Raincoast Education Society This project involves the creation, production and distribution of three related educational publications about the intertidal zone.
Community Action Life Skills & Leadership Program Outdoor Recreation & Sports Tourism Wickaninnish Community School In partnership with School District 70 (Alberni) and the District of Tofino this program involved students from grades 5-7 and included film making, a pre-teen advisory council, a mentoring program with grade one students, and a work experience program.
Baseline Economic Data & Indicators Tofino Business Association The goal of this project is to work with regional business organizations and communities to establish an economic data collection framework for the CSUBR. The results of this project will support the CBT’s Measuring Community Health Initiative.
Fish Mort & Offal to Biofuel Feasibility Study BC Environmental Youth Alliance The aim of this research project is to conduct an in-depth feasibility study for producing biofuel from waste generated by the aquaculture industry in the CSUBR.
FN Cultural Digitizing Project Hesquiaht First Nation The goal of this project is to preserve historical materials containing cultural knowledge including recordings of Hesquiaht elders through digitization. The materials secured through this process will be used as an educational tool in the Hesquiaht First Nation School.
Nuu-chah-nulth Language Centre Nuu-chah-nulth Central Region Language Group The purpose of this project is to develop, publish and maintain a website to serve as an outreach mechanism for individuals to access the Nuu-chah-nulth Barkley dialect language lessons, learning tools and heritage and culture reference library.
Nism'a Project Outdoor Education for Youth Nism'a Project Society The purpose of this project is to engage youth in the outdoors and give them the opportunity to learn about personal responsibility, healthy habits, First Nation culture, outdoors skills, leadership and stewardship of the environment.
Bear Smart Community Development Planning West Coast Bear Aware Committee The aim of this project is to design a ‘Bear Smart Community Planning’ program that outlines requirements necessary to prevent bear-human conflicts that developers will be required to complete as part of their development proposal.
Canopy Study - Arboreal Biodiversity across Spatial Scales University of Victoria, Biology Department This research project investigates diversity patterns over multiple scales within and across old growth forest watersheds using hierarchical analysis to increase understanding of how alpha and beta diversity change across spatial scales (i.e. tree crowns to watersheds).
Outdoor Recreation and Sports Tourism Ucluelet Chamber of Commerce The purpose of this research project is to undertake a study of the existing and potential outdoor recreation and sport tourism opportunities in the CSUBR.
Stellar Sea Lion Project Pacific Rim National Park Reserve The objectives of this study are to determine the seasonal abundance and movements of Steller sea lions in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere region and identify sex and age classes at haul outs within and adjacent to the CSUBR region.
Community Participation in Whale Studies Pacific Wildlife Federation The objective of this study are to support whale-watching collaboration through the development of protocols for sightings, photo-identification and behaviourial observations which will provide whale watching data to be incorporated into a database (i.e. catalogue) and shared with the communities.

Bear Aware Signage for the Wild Pacific Trail West Coast Bear Aware Committee The purpose of this project was to develop and install educational “You are in Wildlife Country - Avoid Wildlife Conflicts” signage on the Wild Pacific Trail.
"Portrait of Ahousaht" Film Project Ucluelet Secondary School The purpose of this project is to give students an opportunity to learn about documentary film production and obtain experience working on a production team. Students will also have the opportunity to appear on camera, organize and operate equipment, conduct interviews with Elders, and plan community events.
Geography 453 Class University of Victoria, Geography Department The goals of this project were to provide students from the University of Victoria with the opportunity to understand environmental, socioeconomic and cultural challenges and opportunities facing a small coastal community, contribute to a community’s environmental, socioeconomic and cultural health, and undertake a research project within the concept of integrated coastal management.

Clayoquot Sound Salmon Review
First Nations Environmental Network This is a year-long project to monitor the presence of Atlantic salmon and/or other invasive species in the rivers and creeks of Clayoquot Sound in consideration of region-wise variables such as climate change, food availability and the impacts of invasives on indigenous marine life.
Streamkeeper Education Brochure Tofino Streamkeepers The aim of this project is to develop, print and distribute an informational, action-oriented brochure about Tofino Streamkeepers and the importance of riparian areas.
Root Garden Project Raincoast Education Society Through the planting and maintenance of a traditional root garden this project engages local youth in research, education and training about traditional foods, environment management systems and community health.
Volunteers and Service Provider Training Pacific Rim Hospice Society The objective of this project is to train community-based educators to facilitate workshops to train community caregivers of the CSUBR region in hospice/palliative care, grief support and self-care for caregivers.
